Synopsis: After serving a short term for petty theft, Lou Jean Poplin visits her husband at prison farm and persuades him to escape so that they can go across the state to Sugarland to retrieve their baby. They hijack a patrolman's car and hold him hostage. The forced relationship between them grows into friendship as they are pursued by police.
